Automotive Technology
Grades 11, 12, and Adult
2-year program, 3 credits per year, 3 periods per day
Year I
This class requires that the student be at least a high school junior. The student will cover the introduction to automotive power plants, overhaul and diagnosis, theory and construction. You will learn all aspects of shop safety, tool identification, and shop equipment use and upkeep. Other area may be covered in an introductory format such as ignition, fuel, charging, starting, brakes, and suspensions. You will experience complete hands-on diagnosis of automotive troubles and repairs while using sate of the art equipment. Diagnosis will be aided by the latest version of All-Data, with a complete computerized diagnostic center at your disposal. The program is NATEF (National Automotive Technical Education Foundation) certified and places great emphasis on student certification.
Prerequiste:
16 years old and hold a valid drivers license
Year II
This class requires completion of the first year, along with the willingness to be mentally challenged by multi-complex scenarios. You will delve further into and build upon your first year experience by covering the principles of brakes, electrical, drive trains, steering, suspension, air conditioning, on-board computer diagnosis and repair, and overall engine running condition. In-depth, shop and bookwork is needed to gain the skills to become a proficient technician. Much emphasis is placed on becoming ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified.
