Letter of Introduction

Greetings!

We hope you are enjoying your summer.  As we begin the  new school year in August, there is some specific information that you will need to know and items you will need to purchase for the Careers in Health Care Program.

IMMUNIZATIONS

It is very important for all of your school shots to be completed and up-to-date.  If your plan is to attend college or go for further technical training, post secondary programs will require you to have a second MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) immunization.  To work or train in any health care facility, it is required that you have a current PPD (Tuberculosis- TB) test with a negative reading and obtain a seasonal flu vaccine as soon as they become available.  We strongly recommend that you get the TB test and flu vaccine as soon as possible at the beginning of the school year.  Proof of immunizations will be requested by your instructor the first week of school.  If you have any questions, please contact your local health clinic or family doctor for more information and/or completion of immunizations.

HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAM CONSENT

Enclosed in this packet you will find information related to the EDL-Employee Disqualification List, Family care Safety Registry, information and requirements for the program, and a list of expenses that will be accrued during the school year.  Please return the completed consent forms and bring your Social Security card, Health Insurance card, Immunization Record, and Driver's License to have your instructor copy for your class record.

UNIFORMS

The uniform items that you will need for this program include: a wristwatch, not digital, with a second hand; and white leather tennis shoes for safety reasons, not canvas or open-heeled clogs.  Also, 1-2 scrub outfits to wear during the hands-on clinical training.  The two colors that our students wear are: Royal Blue or Turquoise.  The uniforms are the Cherokee brand and the tops need to have two waist level pockets-called a V Neck Tunic #4700, the pants have a combination elastic and draw string waist, but no cuffs-called Flare Leg Drawstring #4101.  PLEASE!!! DO NOT BUY HIP HUGGER PANTS.  The uniform shop in the Town Plaza: "Professional Uniform", will give you a 10% discount on your uniforms when you present this letter and say you are in the Careeers in Healthcare class at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.  In order to  keep all uniforms alike and of good quality, this is the only place you can obtain your scrubs.  They will make sure you have the correct fit.  You can only exchange not return scrubs, so make sure you try them on for a correct fit before you buy.  Sizes range from XXS-5XL tops and XXS-3XL pants.  Petite and Tall sizes also available.

Students will have a picture ID made at the beginning of the school year.  This identification will be worn in the clinical settings--hospitals, nursing home, ect.  We ask that students purchase one uniform at the beginning of the school year so their picture can be made with their uniform on.

We look forward to seeing you in the Careers in Health Care class of 2011-2012.
