LANDSCAPE HORTICULTURE
2 semesters – 3 periods
Grades Eligible: 11, 12, Adult
This program is designed to provide knowledge and practical experience in the care, cultivation, and identification of ornamental and landscape plants; flowers, trees, shrubs, ground-covers, vines, and perennials/annuals/biennials. The work will be balanced between the classroom and outdoor activities and laboratories, with emphasis not only on applying and highlighting skills learned in classroom, but also on solution-based problem-solving and innovation/creation. Students will be exposed to and gain ability in plant propagation from seed and various methods of cloning, greenhouse operations, various elements of landscape and floral design, pruning practices, turfgrass management, and various other aspects of Landscape Horticulture.

Landscape/Horticulture II
2 semesters – 3 periods
Grades Eligible: 12, Adult
Prerequisites: Landscape Horticulture 1 and instructor approval
Second-year students can focus on specialization in area of interest, such as greenhouse management, nursery management, landscape installation/maintenance, hardscaping, or others. Students who maintain a “C” or better average coupled with proper attendance qualify for a work/study program in the fourth quarter of their second year. Upon completion of this course, students may choose to be tested for certification as an Advanced Level Missouri Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional (testing fee applies). In addition, this course offers eight hours of community college credit.

- Schedule to take WorkKeys with the CTC assessment office (573.334.0826) and obtain required scores: Graphic Literacy-3, Applied Math-3, Workplace Documents-3
- Complete an application & make deposit ($100)
- Provide proof of HS graduation (or GED)
- Submit background check form
- Class Schedule: Monday - Friday
- August - May (Following the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Calendar).
- Morning block schedule is 8:25 - 10:50
- Afternoon block schedule is 12:10 - 2:45
